Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why does Midlands Technical College need to raise private dollars?

            A.  Midlands Technical College (MTC) is fortunate to receive steady support from the state, its counties, student tuition and federal funds. However, current levels of funding are not sufficient to keep pace with the challenges of global competition and swiftly changing technologies. Funding sources are not expected to grow in proportion to MTC’s enrollment and advanced technology needs. The MTC Foundation initiated this major gifts campaign to establish the critical margin of resources the college needs to advance the high-quality services it provides to the Central Midlands.

Q. Why is Midlands Technical College conducting a major gifts campaign?

            A.  Through its strategic planning process, Midlands Technical College identified needs and responsibilities that are beyond the scope of its current funding sources. A broad-based feasibility study involving community leaders was conducted and the results indicated strong private sector support. Based upon this information, Midlands Technical College and the MTC Foundation Board decided to conduct a major gifts campaign for the benefit of the community.

Q. Is the campaign seeking pledges?

            A.  Yes, pledges enable contributors to realize optimal tax savings and to make a more significant investment in MTC than might be possible with a one-time cash donation. This campaign will continue for a five-year pledge period. All investments will be gratefully received and properly acknowledged.

Q. What are the campaign’s major areas of interest?

            A.  Based on identified needs and the advice of community leaders surveyed during the feasibility study, the campaign will provide support through the MTC Foundation for endowments for excellence in technology, teaching excellence and student success.

Q. How will my contribution be used?

            A.  Your contribution to the major gifts campaign will support the college’s commitment to providing quality education at a reasonable cost. If you prefer, your contribution may be designated for a particular purpose.

Q. Are named giving opportunities available during the campaign?

            A.  Yes, there are opportunities to make investments in memory of or to honor someone. A list of named investment  opportunities is available and these opportunities should be discussed with the Development Office at (803) 822-3646.

Q. In what form may donations be made?

            A.  Donations may be made in the form of cash, securities, personal property or other designated pledges. We urge donors to discuss investments with their tax consultants or financial advisors, as well as with the Development Office, to determine the kind of donation that will best suit their personal circumstances and most benefit them as well as the college. A brochure describing investment options is available.

Q. Is a contribution to the campaign tax deductible?

            A.  Yes, the MTC Foundation has tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3), therefore a donation to the campaign is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
